Our fabulous Story Republicans have been out and about all over Cornwall for the festival season. Performances are in place for the upcoming events:

Autumn Home Educators Sessions

Home Educators Sessions (8-14 year olds, parents welcome)

Cost £10 per session (Siblings/child from same family half price)

Check into The Writers’ Block and join workshop leaders and performers for a morning of writing, exploring our unique space, and discovering new techniques to enhance writing skills and build confidence.

Our Home Education sessions are suitable for age 8 years and above and places are limited.

Creative Writing for Adults: Series 2 - Gathering Ideas with Wyl Menmuir

 

After Wyl’s last sell out workshop, he will now explore starting points with the group, drawing from their own experiences and from a wide range of poetry and prose to uncover the raw material for their next creative project.

Wyl Menmuir is a novelist and editor based in Cornwall. His bestselling debut novel, The Many (Salt Publishing)  was long-listed for the 2016 Man Booker Prize and in November 2016, Nightjar Press published a limited edition chapbook of his story Rounds. His short story, In Dark Places is due to be published by National Trust in September 2017.

Young Writers Group

Young Writers Group led by Jane Pugh       (13-18 year olds)

Are you an enthusiastic and motivated young writer? Want to stretch yourself beyond the classroom? Join our new Young Writers’ group here at The Writers’ Block. The aim of the group is to create an environment in which creative writing is the norm, where everyone is both relaxed and inspired. Where the young writers have the chance write in a variety of genres and work with a range of different writers.

The group will be led by Jane Pugh, who is a professional screen and stage writer, as well as a creative writing tutor, with many years’ experience leading workshops. Jane is funny, inspiring and will make you work hard, sharing her tips and helping you get the best out of your writing.

Bringing together a network of young writers to feed off one another, share your energy and put together a speakeasy event to be held at The Writers’ Block.

Saturday 30 Sept / 4 Nov / 2 Dec           10-1pm             £7.50

An introduction to some of the most inspiring poetry in the English language. A short series of sessions with Rob Lane, former head of English, exploring British and American poetry from the 19th century to present day.

Each session will illuminate the poems, exploring key themes, uniting and leading us from love to war and human issues that have inspired the poets. Starting with Tennyson and Whitman, to Douglas, Porter and Sainte-Marie.

If you have yet to encounter poetry – or if you’d like to meet an old friend in a different setting – join us.

Mon 2, 9, 16 Oct      1-4pm     £12 per session or £30 for all three events when booked in advance.
