Hidden inside a 1970s office complex deep in the heart of Cornwall, the Writers’ Block is a curious new world created by writers, teachers, theatre-makers and artists. It is both a creative space and a six-week writing programme designed to encourage and inspire reluctant young writers and cultivate their writing confidence.
“Amazing, delightful, terrific. I learnt that you could describe atmosphere only using a colour and write a whole story based on an object as small as an arrow.” St Mewan School
The programme includes:
- One CPD day for teachers and teaching assistants: 10am to 3pm inside The Writers’ Block.
Through working with each other and our team of professionals, teachers will learn how to inspire, motivate and enthuse even the most unwilling writers.
- 5 x 2 hour weekly sessions for up to 15 children, accompanied by teachers and support staff
Led by a professional writer, illustrator or performer, children will experience the surprises, reveals and curious worlds of the Writers Block and claim them as their own. Over the five weeks, children will be inspired to write, encouraged to share and develop their ideas and produce work of the highest quality. All of their work will be shared at a celebration event at the end of each six-week course.
When: We have courses on the go and our next set start September 2017 in six-week blocks (one CPD day and five weekly sessions). Sessions are for two hours a week, either morning or afternoon.
Where: Merlin Building, Cornwall College, Camborne
Cost: £1100 per school.
We can only book 10 schools per half term so spaces are limited
