The Wonderful World of international best-selling author Oliver Jeffers opened at Cornwall College, Camborne on Friday 2nd October. The audience, mainly children between the ages of 3 and 7 years old, gave it a big thumbs up, and wowed with delight at they were invited into this brand-new touring walk-through story space.
Over the last three weeks, the Avalon Theatre at the Camborne campus has been transformed into a breath-taking world where young children and their families can explore in 3D, the best-loved stories by best-selling writer and illustrator Oliver Jeffers.
The magical installation has been created especially for children between the age of 3 and 7 years and guides them into an inspiring world where they can quite literally step onto the pages of their favourite stories. As part of the story-led adventure, children are greeted by two eccentric lost property officers who encourage the children to explore the installation and take part in challenges, as they all help a lost penguin find his way home. Inside the animated world, children can take off in a rocket and learn how to catch a star. They can row a boat to the South Pole and enjoy ice cream at a beach where the sun always shines. The hands-on and fully immersive experience features live storytelling and children invited to take part and given little tasks and activities.
Funded by Arts Council England, the installation has come all the way from Discover Children’s Story Centre in London and is part of their national tour which takes in London, Liverpool and Camborne.
Pre- and primary school groups are visiting the installation during the week and it is open to the public at weekends and during half term. As well as the experience at Cornwall College, families and school groups are invited to Heartlands to take part in the Story Trail. If you take your Oliver Jeffers tickets to the Red River Cafe, for every adult meal ordered, children can have their meal half price!
