  • The Writers’ Block  – cultivating skills and confidence in writing for all ages

The Writers’ Block is a creative writing space and programme which aims to break down barriers to writing for reluctant writers and helps those more able to write at greater depth. We are now resident in our new venue at The Ladder in Redruth.

Our schools offer includes:

Schools workshops & programmes – sessions and 6 week programmes developing creative writing and literacy skills which can focus on inspiring reluctant writers, supporting those more able to write at greater depth, targeting areas such as developing vocabulary, sentences for impact, increasing confidence in speaking and sharing. These take place at the new Writers’ Block in Redruth or we can also visit your school. Available for KS2, 3 & 4.

Digital Creative Writing workshops for schools – The Curious Writer encourages imaginative and confident storytelling through a series of guided exercises and activities delivered by video, to combine with and complement classroom learning.

Teacher CPD – tools for you to take back into the classroom. We run CPD sessions several times a year. Keep an eye on our Events page for upcoming sessions, or get in touch.

Reading Teachers = Reading Pupils – a KS2 teachers book group promoting reading for pleasure, created by Cheltenham Festivals. Now recruiting new primary schools for 22-23.

Tell Us A Story – early years and KS1 storytelling and storymaking workshops developing speaking and listening. Available at The Writers’ Block or to visit your school

Little Story Seekers – short story films for young children, including traditional tales, published books, original stories by our writers plus films encouraging creative outdoor play. Look at the Early Years playlist on our YouTube channel.

Projects – we specialise in bespoke projects celebrating sense of place and Cornwall’s culture & heritage, working with schools and other cultural partners such as Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum, Kresen Kernow and Hall for Cornwall.

Artsmark Partnership Programme – Artsmark is the creative quality standard for schools, accredited by Arts Council England. We are delighted to be an Artsmark Partner, part of an endorsed network of arts and cultural organisations that can support education settings on their Artsmark journey to embed arts and culture across the curriculum. Click here to find out more about how we can support your Artsmark journey.
