The Story Republicans

Our glamourous Story Republicans will be out and about regaling audiences with stories, poems and songs at various Cornish festivals and events this year.

Our team are emerging and more experienced performers with various backgrounds in theatre and performance. They cut quite a dash in the street dressed in their Sunday best, brandishing suitcases and performing poems on the spot. You can watch our short film,  find out more about our team and click here to find out what we are up to. You can buy our new CD or download individual tracks you would like from itunes and Amazon.

Their repertoire includes many Charles Causley poems such as ‘Figgie Hobbin’, where a grumpy King pushes away all delicacies in favour of his prized Cornish pudding; and ‘My Young Man’s a Cornishman’, where our ladies fight over a rather self satisfied young man. They will also rouse you with sea shanties, and lull you with stories. The Story Repulicans are directed by Annamaria Murphy, our Artistic Director, and Nix Rosewarne, Guest Director.

This year, to celebrate 70 years since the birth of Cornwall’s foremost playwright, Nick Darke, the Story Republicans will incorporate some of Nick’s work into their repertoire, kindly supported by Hall for Cornwall.

The Story Republicans on their own make an excellent addition to any festival or event, find out how to book them here!

Here’s what’s still to come over the summer…
